Join me for an evening of jazz and jazz inspired compositions. This program will showcase a small snippet of the clarinet's evolution from the hottest solo instrument of jazz to one of the most popular instruments of modern instrumental music. Compositions by Paquito D'Rivera-- inspired by the boogie woogie and swing styles of Benny Goodman--and Peter Winkler's set of ragtime pieces demonstrate that swing is still alive and well in modern clarinet composition. Eric Dolphy's famed God Bless the Child unbridles the Bass Clarinet before we finally turn back the clock to the golden age of swing. The final portion of the set is the "Blowage" Big Band and Strings, featuring the music of none other than "King of the Clarinet" Artie Shaw!
